Jo Ann Gordon Alloy, age 71, of 135 Barnes Road, Laurens, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at her home. Born in Patchogue, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late George W. Gordon. Order of the Amaranth service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel in Laurens, followed by receiving of friends until 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 28, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Clinton.  Burial will take place in Washington Memorial Park in Coram, N.Y. Henry Eugene Bowie Jr., 93,  passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Greenville Hospital System. Known affectionately to his Laurens friends as "P-nut" and his Honea Path friends where he was born, as "Bud", he was the son of the late Henry Eugene Bowie, Sr. and Janie Davis Bowie. Funeral services were held Friday, October 14, at First Baptist Church, followed by a private burial with military honors in Forest Lawn Cemetery. William Cortez "Corky" Burton, age 88, of Laurens, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Clarence and Lonie Cooper Burton. Funeral services for Joana H. Coulter, 85 of Athens, Texas, formerly of South Carolina, were held Friday, October 7, 2016 at Leesville United Methodist Church Cemetery in Laurens. Mrs. Joana went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 3, in Athens, Texas. She was born on May 27, 1931 in Concord, N.C., and was the daughter of Claude David Herman and Dollie Josie Robinette Herman. Mrs. Lydia Mae Cook Edwards, daughter of the late Alphonso Cook and Annie Mae Harper Cook, peacefully slipped away Saturday, October 22, 2016, at the Emory Saint Joseph¹s Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. She was born in Laurens County December 30, 1948. Funeral Services will be Thursday, October 27, at 1:00 p.m. at Childs Funeral Home with burial in Orchard Park Memorial Gardens, Clinton.

Newberry - Kenneth Ray Hall, 58, died Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Palmetto Health Richland. Born on October 31, 1957, in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Walter and Betty Wilson Hall. Services were held Wednesday, October 12, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel, followed by burial in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

John William "Dub" Hughes, 79, of 16 Spartan Dr., Gray Court, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Clifton and Maggie Pennington Hughes. Graveside services will be held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20, at Highland Home Baptist Church. Adeline Vaughn Long, 89, of Laurens, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2016. Adeline had been residing at the Gardens at Eastside, in Greenville, South Carolina, since August 8.  Born in Simpsonville on February 13, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence James Vaughn, Sr. and Pearl Sutherland Vaughn. A memorial service was held at First United Methodist Church on West Main Street in Laurens, on Tuesday, October 18., followed by private burial at the Laurens City Cemetery.

Doris Wells Owens, age 90, resident of Carolina Gardens in Laurens, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016, at Hospice of Laurens County, Hospice House. Born in Laurens, she was the daughter of Kopie D. and Mary Prince Wells. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel with burial following in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Catherine "Cathy" Cable Richard of Laurens passed away October 3, 2016, at the Presbyterian Home of Clinton after a long illness. Cathy was born in 1943 to Walter and Luella Cable of Harwinton, Conn. David Raymond "Buddy" Riddle, age 96, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016, at NHC in Laurens. Born in Gray Court, he was the son of the late Claude and Belle Shular Riddle. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, at Lucas Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will be at the home of his granddaughter, Kim Sanders, 4170 Hwy 221 South, Laurens, and will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Theodore V. "Ted" Riddle, 79, of 117 Essex Dr. in Clinton and formerly of Whispering Way, Laurens, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016, in the comfort of his home. Born in Laurens, he was the son of the late Willie and Frances Duvall Riddle. Graveside services were held Tuesday, October 11, at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. Keith "Rocky" Robinson, 60, of 201 Elizabeth Street, Apt. #B-1, Clinton, departed his earthly home on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was born in Laurens County to the late Azaleen Robinson. Services were held on Saturday, October 15, at Sanders-Thompson Chapel, with burial in Orchard Park Memorial Park.

Honea Path - James Howard Scott, 88, of The Maples, died on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson after a five year battle with cancer. He was born on Dec. 21, 1927, in Honea Path, the son of the late James Adger Scott and Mae Elizabeth Lollis Scott. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 16, at the Honea Path First Baptist Church, followed by burial in Pinelawn Memory Gardens, Clinton. Carolyn Burts Shaw, 75, of 234 Anne Dr., Dearing, Ga., passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016. Born in Laurens, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Fred and Edna Craine Burts. Robert Lewis Taylor, 90, of 6841 Neely Ferry Rd., Laurens, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016, at Laurens County Hospital. Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Robert Richard and Sara Parsons Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, at Union Baptist Church, followed by interment with military honors in the church cemetery. John Russell Thompson Sr., of Newberry, died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at his residence. Born on August 10, 1945 in Laurens, he was a son of the late John and Edna Weathers Thompson. Paul Watson Madden Jr., age 82, of 402 Spring Road, Laurens, went to his eternal home on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Born in Honea Path, he was the son of the late Paul and Ethel Medlock Madden. Clinton -  Ludie George Wesley Sr. passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. while residing in the Winston-Salem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Ludie George Wesley Sr. was born June 27, 1932, to the late Ludie Wesley and Irene Beasley Wesley. The family will be at 248 Coleman Road, Clinton. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29,  at 11 a.m. at Westminister Presbyterian Church.
